Anime and manga have been my safe havens for as long as I can remember. As a kid, the characters were my friends (don’t worry, we aren’t trauma bonding), and as an adult, these fictional men have set the bar so inconveniently high that dating has become a logistical issue.
Suffice to say, I have hours of material to yap about.
After one too many conversations where the other person’s only contribution was politely nodding while I spiraled into copious amounts of detail about my latest pixelated obsession, I figured it was time to find my own little corner of the internet.
Thus, Otaku Reviews was born! (You’re welcome. Or I’m sorry. Time will tell.)
The term “otaku” (お宅) in its native language of Japanese refers to an individual who has intense, all-consuming interests. Between 60+ figures (and counting), 70+ manga volumes, an alarming amount of screen time spent watching anime, and enough hours logged listening to Katsuki Bakugo ASMR that any reasonable person would question my sanity (thanks Yuzuya!), I’d say I fall directly into the otaku category.
My hands down favorite flavor of manga is yaoi, but I also enjoy shōnen, josei, and I’ve been known to occasionally dabble in seinen. I’m not a big fan of shōjo, but if the character development is strong enough, I can be convinced.
Alongside my potentially concerning consumption of anime and manga, I’m also captivated by visual novels and otome games, and harbor a crippling stationery obsession.
I could give a TED talk that would probably result in my institutionalization.
Which is probably fair.
Otaku Talk exists for one simple reason: I love stories. I love the characters who refuse to leave my brain, the creators who bring them to life, and the communities that celebrate them.
