(Obligatory Spoiler Warning- we will be discussing specifics here)

Alright- I’m only one volume deep and I’m convinced this one’s shaping up to be one of my faves. The opening scene with Alma and Tao extorting the businessman/public figure? Set the tone immediately.

Within just a few panels, Alma reminded me of Denji (CSM), and I’m desperately hoping we don’t run into the same traumatic childhood shit we did with Denji. (I’m also hoping we’re not getting the Makima dynamic because Tao seems like she’s a badass saint.)

I also think the introduction of the Maga/Disaster Beasts was fucking awesome. Seeing it in action and getting the explanation while our protags are in combat kept me engaged. Not to mention the AMAZING visuals (yes, I will be glazing those CONSTANTLY).

Alma’s first transformation? Sick. And the slight lore drop about his past spurred a million questions in my mind because – the child of a Maga and human? First of all, how? All the Maga we see in this volume appear to be FAR from capable of participating in the human reproductive process. This is me assuming his mom’s human. If we’re considering the other option, I’m concerned for the mental state of that man.

Also- Tatsuomi. That’s it. That’s the whole sentence.

Can’t even see his face and I’m in love. He reminds me of Kisuke Urahara (Bleach), and I think it’s the combination of his vibe and hair. His playful passes at Tao and Yaya seem less perv-ish and more of a joke. I’m definitely in love with the way he calls Tao darlin’, though. Something tells me he’s gonna have a bigger role, and that he’s gonna be able to hold his own in a fight…okay, maybe that’s wishful thinking, but hey- a girl’s gotta dream.

The cliffhanger at the end with what I believe is Tao’s longtime bounty and suspected unnamed serial killer(?) was a great segue into the next part of the story, and I can’t wait to see what it brings.
